Earlier in the same episode, Astaire's ghost guides Mackenzie through a journey of all kinds of dances. When they get to waltz, the song plays because the clip from Top Hat is shown on screen. In the National Junior Honor Society induction in the episode Honor Society Girl, while Mackenzie gets her certificate, a video of her dancing to the song with her father is shown on the board.

Then, after Donna's song, major changes happened in the kids. Rallo is no longer tattling, Roberta's nose is back to normal, and the big jealousy between Junior and his big sister is broken.

Junior's Go-Pro turns to Rallo, who looks more annoyed than he usually is about Dreamgirls and looking at Roberta, who has joyful tears slip out of her eyes as Whitney opens her mouth to sing.

Junior, Rallo, and Roberta came out of the room waiting for Carol to not go to sleep because they put a lump under 20 mattresses, which I didn't understand. Then I heard Junior and Roberta singing the finale to Once Upon a Mattress in the room, and towards the end of the song, Carol snores as they watch her sleep. And I knew what the kids were up to.

Junior and Roberta are going to a stupid birthday party for their teacher's one year old daughter Ava. One time, Rallo hit that teacher with the one year old, and Roberta wrote an apology letter for her and gave it to her, that was so nice of her.
